Manage stress Chronic stress can contribute to high blood pressure because when we are regularly in stress, our body is in a constant fight- mode. Doing meditation and listening to music, can help reduce your stress. Manage weight Eat less but healthy and adding physical activity will help to burn more calories as obesity puts strain on the heart & cardiovascular system. Exercise regularly Exercise strengthens heart and improves circulation. It plays an important role in controlling weight and managing stress, the two main causes of high blood pressure. Avoid Drinking alcohol Drinking alcohol can affect the muscles in blood vessels causing them to become narrower and after the age of 35, the risk of developing hypertension is very high. Cut back on caffeine Caffeine can cause a short-term spike in blood pressure for some people and harmful for long term also. Quit Smoking Quitting smoking can control high blood pressure as the chemicals in tobacco are known to damage blood vessels. Eat potassium-rich foods Potassium helps to ease tension in the blood vessel walls, which helps lower blood pressure.  It also reduces effects of sodium. Eat Dark chocolate Dark chocolate contains plant compounds that help relax blood vessels, which may lower blood pressure. Eat Berries Berries are rich in polyphenols, which can lower blood pressure and the overall risk of heart disease. Manage your sodium levels Our sodium levels should be balanced as high and low both levels are bad for blood pressure.  Salt intake is high around the world due to increased consumption of processed and prepared foods.
