Hebrew With Ben's video: Hebrew Alphabet Crash Course

@Hebrew Alphabet Crash Course
This is the NEW Hebrew alphabet course on this channel. Don't miss the alphabet quiz: https://youtu.be/7wKBDQWq7Ok Continue learning with the NEW Nikkud course: COMING UP!! How to write the Hebrew alphabet: Hebrew Quizzes: More Information By Letter: The letter Alef is sometime SILENT: https://youtu.be/8vS4VjYLBwU The letter Bet with Dagesh: Dagesh is covered in the Niikud course. The letter Gimel with Geresh: Geresh is similar to apostrophe. It indicates a different pronunciation to the reader. Hebrew is influenced by many other languages. You will see Geresh mainly when reading foreign words in Hebrew. City names, people names, etc. The letter He: In the course, you will find a reference to mothers of reading. Mothers of readings are letters that indicate vowel sounds. In the example shown in 5:00, the letter He is a mother of reading indicating the 'a' vowel sound. The letter Vav: The letter Vav is one of the Hebrew prefixes. This is a big topic I can not cover in a crash course. I recommend you read more here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waw_(letter) and here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prefixes_in_Hebrew. I will create a lesson covering prefixes in the future. The letter Tet: In modern Hebrew, the letter Tet and Tav have the same consonantal sounds. In older Hebrew, it had different sounds. The letter Yod: When Yod is consonantal, it sounds like the English Y. When it is used as a mother of reading, it is not audible and is represented by the English letter I. The letter Kaf: With Dagesh, the letter sounds like a hard C as in Cold, Car, Can. When without a Dagesh, it sounds like the Hebrew letter Het. This is true to modern Hebrew. In older Hebrew, it probably resembled Arabic where there are similar yet different consonants for the Kaf/Kuf and The Het/Dagesh-less Kaf sounds. The letter Tsadi with Geresh - The same principle as Gimel with Geresh as explained above.
