Helping One of Our Own is an independent, non-profit fund-raising campaign, established for the solitary purpose of building a house for an Internally Displaced Person(IDP) who has worst affected by the last stage of the war in Sri Lanka.Mission:Helping One of Our OwnProducts:Re-settled IDPs and their status We had an opportunity to see the true picture behind a internally displaced person(IDP) who has been re-settled by the government and what they have been going through in their whole life and what they are now. The "house" that person was living in is simply a shed. Most of the other "houses" in the neighborhood are not much of a difference to his. You really cannot call it a house. Government and the Army are trying their level best to look after these people and help them to rebuild their houses with the available resources. They appreciate that now they have peace of mind since the war is over. But everything else is far from over for them. Most of them are without a proper HOUSE to live in. We found out the Government and all the Authorities are helping them as much as they can in Micro and Macro level. But we cannot expect Government to solve all the problems that these people face. We cannot expect from any Government in the world to solve all the problems within a short period specially after ending a 32 year old war. Instead there is a real chance of discharging our duty towards our country and towards our fellow citizens without criticizing others and putting the blame on others. We personally presume that it is our duty to help them in our individual capacity to come out of the situation that they are in today. How to help them We are planning to build a basic house for the disabled IDP family that we identified. This family will be an easy access for us to start helping people in those areas. We visited their neighborhood and we realized most of them need help with their houses. What do I want from you? We would like to get ideas and suggestions as to how we can help these people in building a basic house for them. There may be lot of people who have ideas among you or may be there are experienced people to advise us how to start this and handle this. Planning to get contributions from our friends to build few houses and use it as a model to expand this beyond our friends. Other Important points to note This has no political or financial interest at all. No intention of highlighting any person or group of persons' efficiency or inefficiency. What I feel these are all unavoidable circumstances faced by the present situation and it is our duty to help. We identified this IDP family after an incident we experienced on our visit to Killinochchi in March 2010. We can provide more information about the incident if anyone interested to know about the it. This is a sudden initiative made us to take after seeing and talking to those people and has no hidden agenda behind this. All these initiatives have been taken after talking to our close friends and with their help and encouragement. ****************** Note: "Helping One of Our Own" is not affiliated with any religious, political or social organization and is solely a friend's campaign dedicated towards the IDP relief efforts in Sri Lanka . The entire proceeds generated by the "Helping One of Our Own" campaign will be used towards building houses for worst affected IDPs in Sri Lanka . There are no administrative costs or other costs associated with the "Helping One of Our Own" Campaign. All the efforts by the our friends and others are voluntary.
