Heta Gala's video: Climbing a Dead Volcano - Rangitoto Island Auckland New Zealand shorts

@Climbing a Dead Volcano 🌋- Rangitoto Island | Auckland | New Zealand #shorts
Climbing the largest Volcano here in Auckland- Rangitoto Island: Rangitoto Island is 600 years old and one of the largest volcanoes of Auckland volcanic fields. Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand were living on Motutapu Island (  With 178 million years of history, Motutapu is considered one of the earliest places that was inhabited )when fire and steam started erupting from the sea a few hundred metres away.  Rangitito is now a dead volcano, but did you know the whole of Auckland is built on the same active volcanic field that created Rangitoto.  The view from the summit is spectacular , on one side you can see Motutapu Island & on the other side our beautiful Auckland city. The volcanic crater that you saw in the video is 60m deep and 200m wide. Once upon a time there was no vegetation, but now the crater is totally forested.  One can take a ferry from Auckland CBD, which is a 25 minutes ride to this island. The ferry ride is for 39 dollars per adult if booked online. Once you reach this island, you can walk up to the Rangitito summit through lava fields which will take 2 hours return or you can go for coastal walk " Islington Bay that passes many of the old boat sheds and baches and ruins of World War II storage areas.  We would suggest wearing proper footwear as you will be walking on uneven surfaces and also carry your own food and water as there is nothing on the island.  When it comes to toilets there are provisions at the wharf.  Make sure to check the ferry timings and details  as if you miss the ferry, you might have to stay at the island itself which is not a good idea. Also Islington Bay stops are seasonal, so please check for ferry timetables properly.  Also while going up the summit, we saw a signpost of Lava Caves, so if you wish to check that out, it is a 15 minutes detour one way.  Also don't forget to Like, Share , Subscribe & Comment :) You can watch my other videos from NewZealand Travel Series here: Little India in Auckland - https://youtu.be/XSRKZZAb-to Piha Beach New Zealand - https://youtu.be/cC3NlNSiu50
