We are at a small rest stop at Elijah's Basin about 300m below the summit of Mount Sinai and the group sang the hymn Amazing Grace, written by John Newton. Our Bedouin guide is Yousef, the man in the green sweater. Elijah's Basin is a sandy flat surface which lies between the northern extension of the mountain, Mount Safsafa, and the summit and which breaks the 750 steps to the summit from the 3000 steps which descend to the Saint Catherine Monastery.
