Shimla: Prof Sikandar Kumar, the Vice-Chancellor of the Himachal Pradesh University misinformed the Governor’s Office about his qualifications to get the position. This is the conclusion that can be drawn from the reply filed by the Governor’s Office in response to a petition filed in the HP High Court challenging his appointment. In a response to the notice from the state high court, the Governor's Office admitted that Prof Sikandar Kumar misinformed it about his eligibility while applying. In ideal circumstances, either he should have resigned on moral grounds or been sacked by the government. But in this case, Prof Sikandar receives a reward of a one-year extension instead of punishment. The conditions are not favourable to facilitate corrections when governments are the facilitators of such riggings in appointments at key positions in higher educational institutes, says one of the student bodies of HP University.
