Letter from past Gateway attendee: Hi, My name is Anand and I've actually been to Gateway before, and am not being paid to write nice things. I was not even told to write nice things. Let's just hope the guys in charge haven't made a terrible mistake. Gateway last year was a life-changing experience, not because of the schedule or the speakers or the sessions in themselves, but because there were over a hundred attendees who experienced them all at once. Whether we were falling asleep at night complaining about the next morning's early shower, or stargazing through the clear sky from the shore of the pond, we all did it together. This togetherness in action helped us become one in spirit, as well. As we joined peers and adults for meals three times a day, we made friends and bonds that would help us grow and diversify in lasting ways. I've not mentioned a thing about Hinduism yet, because, to be entirely honest, there's nothing Gateway asks of your religious progress except for an open mind and an open heart. The point of the event is to talk about issues that concern you in the context of Hinduism, and for you to raise and answer questions geared to help us understand this elusive faith and our place in it. The theme of this year's Gateway is "Find Your Dharma". The great thing about that theme is that, in the spirit of the message itself, you can take it to mean whatever you want. To me, that meant asking the speakers hard questions, it meant challenging myself to see from others' points of view, and it meant breaking it down camp-style with all my new friends when it was over. So the question never was, "Is Gateway for me?" It was "What will I make of Gateway?", and that opens the door to a lot of big things. But that's just my two cents. Any questions, email me at anandjayanti@gmail.com. Thank you, Anand Jayanti The cost of Gateway is $70 per person until January 21, 2011. This includes lodging and food for 3 days and 2 nights, guest speakers, and other activities. Registration on and after January 22 is $80, so reserve your spot now!
