@Battle of Peachtree Creek | Full Animated Battle Map
In May 1864, two major campaigns were launched by the United States against the Confederacy: The Overland Campaign pitting Ulysses S. Grant against Robert E. Lee in Virginia and The Atlanta Campaign pitting William T. Sherman against Joseph E. Johnston in Georgia. The Atlanta Campaign wasn't the bloodiest Campaign of the two, but it was arguably the most important in 1864 because it gave the Union and Abraham Lincoln's election Campaign a morale boost, prior to the 1864 elections in November. In this episode, the new Army of Tennessee commander, John Bell Hood, launched his first attack against William T. Sherman's army group. Hood was hoping to isolate and destroy part of the Union Army group before it could get to Atlanta and force Sherman to withdraw out of Georgia.
