Hiromatsu as referred to in the Shogun TV show is based on the real life of Hosokawa Fujitaka a Samurai daimyo during the sengoku period, the time in Japanese history in which civil wars and social upheavals took place almost continuously in the 15th and 16th centuries, resulting in a time of everlasting war and chaos. Fujitaka was also a respected warrior, poet and scholar whose great intelligence was noted at an early age.
