Holiday Extras Travel Guides's video: How to make a tote bag out of an old T-SHIRT What You Packing

@How to make a tote bag out of an old T-SHIRT! | What You Packing?
Welcome to What You Packing, probably best described as a travel variety show. Today, we're going to do a little craft I found on the internet a few years ago. It's perfect for me because I have loads of old clothes and I can't sew. Never looked back. Little extra tip - the stretchy T-shirt fabric makes it a REALLY good bag for your washing while you're travelling, because it gets bigger the more socks and pants you need to put in it. If you've got an old shirt and a rainy Sunday, knock yourself out. My name is Jake and I am... your best friend. We haven't spoken in years, but... it's still there, isn't it? Today we're going to be making a T-shirt tote like this one. You can do it within 5 minutes and it's going to save you creating waste by buying loads of plastic bags and stuff when you're on holiday. Yeah! Here we go! Watch me magically unmake this as I get started on the craft 10 minutes ago. Bang! An old t-shirt and a pen. And scissors that's the most important bit and I don't have them. And scissors! Let's get cracking on What You Packing. That sucks! What you’re going to want is ideally a ruler. I spent 20 minutes walking up and down this office trying to get a ruler but unfortunately we’re very forward thinking so we've all got laptops we do our work off. No one’s got - no one's got a ruler anymore. And I'll tell you what you can’t get a pritt stick for the life in this building either. Pritt stick, stapler, paper clips. Let’s get back on track. What you want to do once you've got your old shirt laid out like this is you wanna pull it inside out so that the seam we create is going to be on the inside afterwards. Right ok so now what you want to do is get your straight edge. You should use a ruler because you're better than I am and you're better prepared than I am. I’m just - you’re going to make better bags and I do I'm just I'm just helping you start the journey. Ok and you want to use your pen - doesn't have to be a Sharpie if you’re not fancy like I am. Fancy. I don’t even have a ruler! Sitting here trying to tell you I’m fancy. I’m using a bag clip as my straight edge. OK make these markings. Again you're not trying to impress anyone, you can, they can be a bit rough if you want. But what’s great about this is (you might need to supervise with the scissors) great to do with kids as well. Good time to talk about the environment and stuff. If they've got an old shirt they really like but they're too big for now and they're sad to see it go? You turn it into a little tote bag. If they like the tote bag you might even be able to trick them into tidying. Or getting together their own washing. That’d be nice, wouldn’t it? Self-washing kids. And now as you can see we’ve correctly marked it and you want to flip it over and do that on the other side as well because you're basically want to be cutting all around the bottom of the T-shirt into tassels. Ok, we're nearly there. This isn't even the most laborious part of it that’s still to come. I shouldn’t say that! Crafts are fun! This is a fun craft! See when you got the shirt hanging like that? Looks like a Halloween costume right? Easy zombie. Nah we’ve gotta make a bag. You want to take opposite tassels and you're going to tie them together. I know this isn't super fun but this is how you get out of sewing. Okay, I’d say that’s about done. So now you have a seam like this at the bottom of the shirt. It is sealed. You're going to want to cut around these sleeve seams. Right ok, I'm rushing. You're going to go away and you're going to make much better bags than I ever have for sure. We are really nearly there. Ok you need now to decide how big you want the gob of your bag to be. So I'm going to roughly say that. Perfect. Perfect!
