Holo Holo Adventures's video: KAIWI SHORELINE TRAIL MAKAPU U LIGHTHOUSE

Hike this easy paved family friendly hike to Makapu'u Light House in Waimanalo on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. This hike has many names from Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail, Kaiwi Shoreline Trail, Makapu'u Point Trail, Makapu'u Light House, etc. The Makapu‘u Point trail is within the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline. It offers outstanding views of O‘ahu’s southeastern coastline. Makapu‘u Lighthouse was built in 1909 and is off-limits to the public. On a clear day, you may even see Moloka‘i and Lana‘i. The offshore islets are wildlife sanctuaries for Hawaiian seabirds, such as the ‘iwa, frigate bird, and tropicbird. This trail is an excellent place to view migrating humpback whales in season between November to May. The trail is exposed and is usually sunny and hot. It can be very windy at the summit.
