@WAYNE ROONEY | Wayne Rooney's 250 Goals for Manchester United | Wayne Rooney for the Red Devils
Thumbnail Credits : Bleacher report Wayne Rooney is official Manchester United's all-time top scorer having broken the previous record set by United legend Bobby Charlton. Rooney has now scored 250 goals for the Red Devils and as we know, there were a lot of gorgeous goals scored along the way. The England skipper has quite the highlight reel to choose from when it comes to picking his finest strikes but we've done our best to put together a diverse mix of Rooney's best goals. vs Middlesbrough (2004/05) We start with a ridiculous chip Rooney scored against Middlesbrough in an FA Cup tie back in 2004/05 season. Rooney was on fire in this game and scored one of his best Manchester United goals when he found himself in behind the backline. After noticing that Mark Schwarzer was well off his line, Rooney took advantage but deftly lifting the ball into the net. A lovely goal all-round. vs Newcastle (2004/05) One of Rooney's most famous goals back in his younger days, Rooney was arguing with the referee and unleashed his furious rage in the best way possible by smashing in an absolute screamer on the volley. The technique is sublime, the power unmatched and it left Shay Given absolutely helpless in the Newcastle goal. vs Portsmouth (2006/07) The United No.10 loves a good chip and he produced one that may well have been even better than the one he conjured up against Middlesbrough a few years later in the FA Cup again. Rooney starts the move off himself when he receives the ball from a Gary Neville throw-in and finishes it all off when he creates a bit of space on the edge of the box before audaciously chipping David James. Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the goal as "fantastic" and compared it to the memorable chip Eric Cantona delivered against Sheffield United. vs Manchester City (2010/11) Being a supporter of a certain other team from Manchester, I had difficulty bringing myself to include this strike. I may or may not hold the opinion that it came off his shin after a deflected cross in which Vincent Kompany slipped. But to be fair, there aren't many ways to win a tense affair against your arch-rivals are there? West Ham (2013/14) For the record, I reckon Adrian might have had had a better chance of saving this if he decided to not fall over for no reason. But scoring from the halfway line is no mean feat and it's certainly one of the greatest goals Rooney has ever scored.
