Honourably Spotting Trains's video: Class 387 Compilation

@Class 387 Compilation
A compilation video focusing on the Class 387 units employed on a multitude of services throughout the Southeast of England (+ Wales). ----- The Class 387 EMUs are the very last of the Electrostar family of Electric Multiple Units created by then Bombardier Transportation (now Alstom), being built in different batches between 2014 and 2017. The Class 387 is a Standard Gauge, dual-voltage EMU, built as a 4 coach configuration with end-gangway connectors at each end of the trainset, allowing for 8 or 12 coach configurations to be employed by various operators such as Great Western Railway (GWR). Each coach has a rough length of 20.39 metres (66ft 11in), a width of 2.80 metres (9ft 2in), and a height of 3.77 metres (12ft 4in). - The first trainsets were constructed from late 2013/early 2014 for Thameslink (TL), in order to replace some of their existing Class 319s. The class is an evolution on the previous Electrostar type, the Class 379, with enhanced electronics, differing seating plans, dual voltage capabilities (3rd rail 750V DC as well as OHLE 25kV 50Hz AC), and a speed of 110mph/177kmph, with a power output of roughly 2,250 horse power. - Following on from Thameslink's initial order (through parent company Govia Thameslink Railway, GTR), stock leasing company Porterbrook placed a speculative 80 train order in 2015 for Class 387s. Eventually, 24 of these would go to c2c to supplement their overcrowding issues, whilst the remaining 56 would eventually come into service with GWR. By 2016 a batch of 27 units had been ordered and delivered for GTR to operate their Gatwick Express (GE) services between London, Gatwick Airport and Brighton; this took the total produced trainsets to 107 by the end of production. - The Class 387s have shuffled around in operation between most of the original operators since 2015/16. GTR had for a time used some 387s prior to operating Gatwick Express services on Thameslink services due to delays with commissioning the Class 700s; they returned to GE by summer 2016. In late 2016, the Class 700s displaced 29 Class 387s on TL, which were transferred to Great Northern (GN), who since then use their units on King's Cross to Cambridge, King's Lynn and Ely services. With the remaining Class 365s removed in 2021, some GE Class 387s were used to cover for their removal; these returned to GE & Southern in 2022, once c2c had finished using them. - GWR for its part had its first Class 387s in service by 2016, at first between London Paddington and Hayes & Harlington. These were extended to Maidenhead in 2017, and then Didcot Parkway in 2018, following the progression of the GWML Electrification Scheme. In 2019 they began working services to/from Newbury following more electrification work. In December 2019, TFL Rail, now the Elizabeth Line/Crossrail, began running most commuter traffic between Reading and London Paddington; this enabled 12 units to replace the Class 332s on Heathrow Express services between Paddington and Heathrow Airport, being fitted with ETCS Signalling for usage within the Heathrow Airport tunnels. GWR have more recently started using Class 387s on InterCity services to/from Cardiff Central upon completion of electrification through the Severn Tunnel. ----- 00:00:00 - Title Start 00:00:25 - General Info & Interior 00:04:46 - Onboard Filming 00:11:47 - Varied Clips - 2019 00:12:13 - Varied Clips - 2018 00:12:26 - Varied Clips - 2019 00:12:55 - Varied Clips - 2020 00:13:20 - Varied Clips - 2018 00:14:13 - Varied Clips - 2020 00:14:36 - Varied Clips - 2021 00:17:52 - Varied Clips - 2019 00:19:10 - Varied Clips - 2020 00:19:44 - Varied Clips - 2021 00:20:14 - Varied Clips - 2018 00:20:30 - Varied Clips - 2022 00:26:21 - Varied Clips - 2023 00:28:59 - Varied Clips - 2021 00:29:50 - Reading unit decoupling movements 00:33:57 - Images, outro cards and end. ----- Filmed on the: Great Western Mainline East Coast Mainline Brighton Mainline Reading-Taunton Line ----- Please leave a like, comment or even subscribe if you enjoy my content.
