Honourably Spotting Trains's video: Trains at Micheldever SWML - 28 02 2023

@Trains at Micheldever (SWML) - 28/02/2023
The 187th video of my train spotting adventures. ----- This video takes us a little ways down the line from Basingstoke to the small village station of Micheldever, around 58 miles down the line from London Waterloo. A small 2-platform station, it was first constructed as a two side-platform arranged station in 1840, and originally known as Andover Road station. This was due to the village around Micheldever railway station not originally existing until it was built due to said station; Andover got its own station eventually, and soon enough in 1856 the station received the name Micheldever. So closely tied to the station was the development of this small village - separated from the main Micheldever some miles to the south - that the village itself is technically named "Micheldever Station". - It remains one of the least used stations in Hampshire despite being on the main South West line to/from Waterloo. In spite of this, the village still maintains an active yet rural and quiet community, and retains a sense of idyllic country living, regardless of its closeness to the M3. Today, the newer island platforms (changed in 1967 with the advent of electrification) are served solely by South Western Railway, with Cross Country and numerous freight services passing at speed. - A goods yard exists close to the station, though as of recently it seems to serve little purpose, being in a fair state of disuse. ----- Filmed on the: South Western Mainline ----- Services seen: SWR) Services towards Winchester, Eastleigh, Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton Central, Brockenhurst, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Portsmouth Harbour, Basingstoke, Farnborough (Main), Woking, Basingstoke, Clapham Junction and London Waterloo. - XC) Services towards Winchester, Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton Central, Brockenhurst, Bournemouth, Basingstoke, Reading, Oxford, Banbury, Leamington Spa, Coventry, Birmingham (Int & New St), and on towards Manchester Piccadilly. ----- Trains seen: SWR) Class 450 Desiro, Class 444 Desiro XC) Class 220/221 Voyagers FL) Class 66 Colas) Class 70 ----- Please leave a like, comment or even subscribe if you enjoy my content.
