Honourably Spotting Trains's video: Trains at Princes Risborough CML - 14 01 2023

The 182nd video of my train spotting adventures. ----- This video takes us along to Buckinghamshire, to the junction station of Princes Risborough. A small 3-platform station situated around 1/3 of the way up the line from London Marylebone, its first iteration was formed when the Wycombe Railway arrived with its Oxford extension around 1862. The branch to Aylesbury was opened a year later, and then the Watlington & Princes Risborough Railway was opened via Chinnor, adding yet another junction to the area. Around 1910, various works to create a new Great Central Railway route into London and offer GWR more route access to/from the midlands, formed into the Bicester cut-off lines, nowadays the modern Chiltern Mainline. - The branch to Watlington closed in 1957, though part of the line as far as Chinnor exists today as a preserved railway, under the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway title. The Wycombe Railway route closed around 1963, and the GCR around 1966. This leaves the present day remaining accessible routes - the Chiltern Mainline, and the chord to Aylesbury. Cuts to the CML in the 1960s left only Platforms 1 & 2 useable. In 1988 Platform 3 was reinstated for use (alongside Platform 4 for the C&PRR), and in 2011 a bypass line in the middle was reinstated for faster services, as part of Chiltern Railways Project Evergreen 3. - Nowadays the station sees services purely by Chiltern Railways, with services going to & coming from London, Birmingham, Oxford and/or Aylesbury. ----- Filmed on the: Chiltern Mainline ----- Services seen: CR) Services towards Aylesbury, Haddenham & Thame Parkway, Bicester, Oxford, Banbury, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Solihul, Birmingham Moor Street & Snow Hill, Kidderminster, High Wycombe and London Marylebone. ----- Trains seen: CR) Class 165 Networker Turbo, Class 168 Clubman, Class 68 UKLight & DVT C&PRR) BR Bo-Bo Class 17 No. D8568 RA) Class 50 50008 Thunderer/Hanson & Hall Colas/Private) Class 37 37418 ----- Please leave a like, comment or even subscribe if you enjoy my content.
