It was a sorry sight to behold a once beautiful mangrove that gave esthetics to the creeks of the Niger delta region reduced to a shadow of itself. No thanks to illicit Oil bunkering. The Navy led journalists and staff of Oil Mining License, OML Eiighteen to the wellhead site also known as the Christmas tree to witness the destruction of the multiple trunks connected to the manifold. The Commander Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Suleiman Ibrahim said the Navy has intensified effort to track down crude oil thieves and ensure they were punished accordingly. Commodore Ibrahim stated this during the destruction of multiple trunk lines connected to Wellhead seventeen operated by Oil Mining License, OML Eighteen belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited, at Elem-Krakrama community in degema local government area of Rivers state. He said those involved in the economic sabotage will not go unpunished. Earlier, enroute to the site of the Christmas Tree, four men suspected to be Oil thieves were intercepted along the creeks with a local boat laden with stolen Automated Gas Oil AGO also known as diesel In their confessions, the suspects admitted going into the illicit business due to economic hardships. The OML 18 which NNPC Lmited recently maintained has not commenced operations before the criminals took advantage.
