Chicken plays a special role in Slavic Mythology. That might explain why a protective amulet is even called a chicken god. But there were more chicken gods than are commonly known in popular culture. And they originate from the one direction you might never suspect, Eastern Orthodox Christianity, and its veneration of certain saints. In this fascinating video Gomez briefly goes through basics of mythology, explaining how Saint Paraskeva, as well as the healers Saints Cosmas and Damian, were easily intergrated into folk practicises, allowing Slavic folklore and mythology blend and the concept of the chicken undergo an unusual symbolic transition of its own, in conjunction with the changes in local mythology.
