@Gay Byrne - IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award, 2007 - NEW LINK
In honour of Gay Byrne, undoubtedly one of the greatest broadcasters in the world, who passed away on November 4th, 2019. The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) pays tribute to him. "Farewell to our beloved Gay, whom we at IFTA loved so dearly. A genius and a gentleman, who was our mentor and our friend and who always gave freely of his time, advice and knowledge. He will be sorely missed by all his fellow Academy Members." Here we take a look back to 2007 when Gay received his IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his incredible contribution to Irish broadcasting and to Irish society. The Award is presented by Gabriel Byrne and Bob Geldof with official message form President Mary McAleese. He has inspired new generations of Irish talent to be brave, superb and unique - just like he was. Ní fheicfimid a leithéid riamh arís. Go bhfanfaidh a anam i síocháin.
