The event Ahead of the UK's forthcoming International Development Strategy, this event organised by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact and the International institute for Environment and Development (IIED) - held online and in person - saw participants examine the UK's progress towards aligning aid with the Paris Agreement and learn from the experience of a Multilateral Development Bank working on this agenda. The implications for developing countries' climate finance planning were also unpacked. The speakers 1:37 Andrew Norton (moderator) is an applied anthropologist and director of IIED, He introduces the event 05:27 Panel introductions 08:30 Tamsyn Barton is the chief commissioner of the Independent Commission for Aid Impact and has 25 years’ experience working in international development, delivering and overseeing a wide variety of programmes including those run by UK government, small NGOs and international financial institutions. She provides an overview of the ICAI rapid review on aligning aid with Paris Agreement and its findings and key recommendations 22:37 Vel Gnanendran is the climate and environment director for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, UK. He reflects on how the International Development Strategy can support this agenda and the need for timebound milestones, opportunities and barriers 29:57 Dr Kevin Kariuki is vice-president for power, energy, climate and green growth at the African Development Bank Group. He has over 30 years of experience in power system development, renewable energy development and energy efficiency, climate change and green growth, strategic energy partnerships, energy financial solutions, policy and regulation. He provides insights into how the African Development Bank Group is progressing this agenda. 40:08 Ebony Holland is a senior researcher (nature-climate policy lead) in IIED's Natural Resources and Climate Change research groups.
