IIED's video: Decolonising climate action - Joe Muturi Slum Dwellers International

@Decolonising climate action - Joe Muturi, Slum Dwellers International
The CBA17 session 'Every voice counts: decolonising climate action through equitable partnerships' opened up with a video message from Joe Muturi, president of Slum Dwellers International (SDI). He asked: how do we change the narrative? And amplify the discussions, and resilience strategies that communities are using and have been using for many years? He commented that in the global South, they use local initiatives and solutions to address climate change. He says the call to action is recognition that climate action is here with us; and we must mainstream and demystify the discussion around climate change. Muturi wants to localise the discussion: in the global South, there are already people who are mitigating climate change and (particularly women’s groups) who are creating alternatives. He thinks we must we localise the climate change discussion and mainstream the climate change agenda in our everyday life and activities. The 17th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA17) took place in Bangkok, Thailand from 22-25 May, 2023.
