IIED's video: Understanding loss and damage

@Understanding loss and damage
As climate change causes devastation across the world, some impacts manifest slowly, such as sea-level rise, ocean acidification and desertification, while others – cyclones, drought, flash flooding – hit hard and fast. The loss and damage from these impacts may be repaired at a cost, including damage to buildings and infrastructure, destroyed crops and loss of livestock. Many are non-economic, such as death, damage to health, destruction of crucial ecosystems, and loss of cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge. In this presentation, Simon Addison, principal researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), explains what loss and damage is and how it is affecting poor communities in developing countries. He also explores how developing country governments and their international partners can respond to the mounting challenge of loss and damage. This presentation was made as part of a webinar for the Irish Aid Climate Learning Platform: https://www.climatelearningplatform.org/ More on loss and damage: https://www.iied.org/demanding-attention-for-loss-damage-climate-change
