IIED's video: How do building materials reach informal settlements Harare Zimbabwe

@How do building materials reach informal settlements? (Harare, Zimbabwe)
This animation shows the value chain of bricks and roofing sheets used for homes in informal settlements in Harare, Zimbabwe, focusing on the communities of Dzivarasekwa and Tafara. The animation was produced as part of a longread that studies what incentives, norms or regulations shape access to building materials used for housing in informal settlements, focusing on Harare and Freetown in Sierra Leone. IIED has been working with Slum Dwellers International (SDI) affiliates in Harare (Dialogue on Shelter) and Freetown (Centre of Dialogue on Human Settlement and Poverty Alleviation, CODOHSAPA) to investigate the governance of the value chain of building materials used for housing in informal settlements in both cities. Illustration and motion design by Lowii Studio.
