@CBA16 #15: Bridging the barriers to upscaling of community-based adaptation
Upscaling community-based adaptation (CBA) and gender-just adaptation initiatives is key to the success of locally led adaptation (LLA). Upscaling of CBA could take the form of replication within a river basin; by ensuring CBA is adopted by governments; and/or through the transfer of experiences between different localities. However, upscaling remains challenging due to barriers varying from access to finance and political will to how climate impacts of CBA are defined and measured - opposed to business as usual. Together with CBA champions, policymakers, financiers and the audience, this session at the 16th International Conference on Community-based Adaptation (CBA16) discussed the actions needed to bridge barriers and explore how the LLA principles can be supportive for upscaling CBA. The speakers were: *Perry Ndzefemmegho, director, CENDEP Cameroon *Violet Matiru, director, Millennium Community Development Initiatives, Kenya The panellists were: Heather McGray, director, Climate Justice Resilience Fund (CJRF) Arghya Sinha Roy, principal climate change specialist, Asian Development Bank Mahamat Abakar Assouyouti, senior climate change specialist, Adaptation Fund Karen Stehouwer, Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) This session was organised by Both Ends, CENDEP and MCDI.
