ISPO's video: ISPO Munich 2020 - Textile recycling within a closed cycle

@ISPO Munich 2020 - Textile recycling within a closed cycle
According to a recent study, around 1.2 million tonnes of used textiles are collected in Germany every year. But only 12% of this can be recycled for new clothing. The mandate for action for the textile industry is therefore clear: Prof. Kimmerle Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen “Today we must think in terms of conserving resources and closed loop systems. And forget the linear business system, with its - turnover, turnover, turnover. Fast fashion is out." Produce sustainably, use durable textiles and repair materials. A circular economy for sporting goods - this is one of the key topics at ISPO Munich. Prof. Kimmerle Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen "We have to rely more on renewable resources, of course, the cradle to cradle system. Or find recycling approaches for the man-made fibres." A company that already implements recycling is PYUA. The concept: used products are collected and processed into new pieces. For this purpose the materials are shredded into granulate. This is how they make new yarn for their new jackets. Sabine Schneider Head of Marketing PYUA “For us it all starts with the design process, this is when we decide to use mono-material, PTFE-free and FC-free impregnation. And that is why everything that we introduce into the cycle is always kept in the cycle. A PYUA product will always remain in the cycle.” Recyclable textiles must be conceived as sustainable from the very beginning. This is why Sympatex is presenting the ‘Revolution Hybrid’. The vision: producing functional jackets exclusively from recycled textiles. The upcycled jacket already consists of 30% collected and recycled textiles and 70% recycled plastic. Sporting goods without adhesives or plastics - but made from renewable raw materials: The new so-called Spinnova technology enables Bergans to break down its products back into their fibers. The prototype of the cycle is a backpack made of cellulose. Ronny Hammer Brand Director Bergans “This product, collection of tomorrow, is put into a churrn, made a new fabric. The next time it might be a jacket, or a t shirt. This time it is a backpack.” Adidas is also focusing on the circular economy. In their new FUTURECRAFT.LOOP they use uncolored mono-material - obtained from 100 % Ocean Plastic. Birgit Freundorfer Design Director adidas: “The idea is that this jacket can be completely recycled again without having to remove parts that need to be ground up, such as zippers and fasteners. As it is, it can be recycled and made back into a jacket.” Recycling management does not necessarily require a high-tech approach - it simply needs a good idea. For example, turning waste from ski fur production into belts or small bags. Textile recycling within a closed cycle. ISPO Munich presents many new facets and ideas for the future.
