Ian Corneil's video: LITTLE WING SRV - NOTE FOR NOTE - KEY OF E

@LITTLE WING (SRV) - NOTE FOR NOTE - KEY OF E
Guitar is tuned to E (Not Eb). One take, start to finish. It's shot as close as possible so you can see my hands. Hope it helps. http://www.myspace.com/iancorneil Just wanted to add a few comments about the value of learning a song note for note. I realize that it's not the most creative endeavor, and certainly there will be those who dismiss me as a copy cat who lacks the talent and imagination of SRV (which I do). The truth is though, while Hendrix or SRV would never have played this the same way twice, they also spent countless hours learning their hero's solos and ripping licks off. That I think is the ultimate reason to learn something exactly. It forces your hands to do something unnatural and expands your knowledge base when you're in a position to do your own thing. Hence, I would encourage anyone interested in music to try and learn a few tough tunes that they might dismiss otherwise. You'll find your playing improves immeasurably. If you do take me up on the challenge and choose Little Wing by SRV I hope this video helps. FYI I recorded the song in E not Eb because it's too much work reintonating my guitar and resetting the tremolo springs just so I can play SRV. Also, a quick comment on tone. SRV played on gauge 13 strings half a step down. It makes a difference in sound (it's not the only factor, but it is necessary if you want to sound like him). For my part, I started out on gauge 13 strings, but my fingers weren't up to it. It gave me tendonitis in my pointer finger (even Stevie admits that strings that thick destroy your hands and your guitar - I can testify to the truth of that statement). Nevertheless, gauge 12 isn't far off. It makes playing this tune harder, but it gives you a fuller tone and strengthen's your hands. Thanks for watching.
