IndiaPost Live's video: Saffron Shadow On V-Day

@Saffron Shadow On V-Day
Saffron Shadow On The Light of Love So the right wing groups just won't leave Valentine's Day alone this year too. They tried everything - setting V-Day cards on fire, harassing youngsters out on a date, vandalising coffee shops and multiplexes, forcing girls to tie rakhi on boys' wrists... but now they seem to be changing their gameplan. Did you know that the Hindu Mahasabha has announced that couples found celebrating Valentine's Day in public will undergo a prompt Arya Samaj wedding. If you are not Hindu and still in love, you will have to sit through a "shuddhikaran" or purification ritual. Even social media will be monitored. Anyone found displaying love on Facebook, Twitter or WhatsApp will be caught hold of and married off. Oh and that's not all. If you resist a conversion, or are unsure about marriage, your parents will be informed. So the use of marriage to end love. How pathetic is that? Less than 3 weeks ago, US President Barack Obama condemned those who seek to use religion as a rationale for carrying out violence, and gently reminded India on the need to act against religious intolerance. It doesn't end there. Chattisgarh BJP government has decided that February 14 shall be observed as ‘Matru-Pitru Diwas’ or ‘Parents Worship Day’. Valentine's Day is against Indian culture, you see? But there is a bright side to this: if you are in love, all you have to do is to show up near a Hindu Mahasabha office on February 14th, hands tightly clasped and love sparkling in your eyes. You can then head home, tell your parents what happened and all's well. Join Indiapostlive as we discuss all these aspects and wonder what we can expect on Valentine's Day next year!
