IndiaPost Live's video: Love Defenders Vs Hindu Mahasabha on Valentine s Day

@Love Defenders Vs. Hindu Mahasabha on Valentine’s Day
Hundreds of students of Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, descended on the Mandir Marg office of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha in New Delhi, in a protest against the "politics of oppression". Several others, dressed in wedding costumes, responded to a call by Shuddh Desi Romance, and assembled there for an event where "Everyone Weds Anyone". The move was to make life easier for activists of Hindu Mahasabha, who had threatened to forcefully get couples married on Valentine's day if they were found together. The right wing outfit, opposed to "western ways of displaying affection" had announced their grand plan of getting couples married off. They had also said that if both members were Hindu, they would be married according to Hindu rituals, and in case a couple belonged to different faiths, there would be a "Shuddhikaran" or a purification ritual. Students held placards, with the message: "Fall in Love, Do not Fall in Line". However, the cops picked them up before they could reach the Hindu Mahasabha office. Amid scuffles, they were bundled them in buses and taken to a nearby police station. Several young women were roughed up in the melee. Reaching the police station, the protesters organised an impromptu "Sangeet" followed by a mock wedding. A huge crowd had gathered outside the police station demanding the release of the protesters. The message was loud and clear: The youth is undaunted by such threats and will continue to fight for freedom to express their feelings.
