@Government Persecution: Where Is Our Place in this World?
What does persecution look like when the perpetrator is the government? The relationship between Christianity and governments around the world is formed by complex issues revolving around culture, the country’s dominant religion, and the government’s views toward religious freedom. Throughout the world, these factors tend to shape the type of persecution that Christians encounter in their respective countries, whether that be job discrimination, attacks on individuals and churches, restrictions on churches, surveillance, imprisonment, torture, or murder. It can look different from the attacks, murders, or terrorism that you may hear about on the news, but just as devastating for the life of the believer. The New Testament church was no stranger to suffering at the hands of a corrupt government, and Jeff King takes us through an overview of how governments use persecution as a tool to try to control the church by incarcerating and coercing believers around the world.
