Signaling in general is a hot topic among model railroaders. There are plenty of discussions and videos about it, and, as it seems, a lot of confusion as well. At least some of the confusion seems to be the result of people just jumping on details and exceptions rather than first trying to gain a good understanding of the underlying fundamentals.
