Rajdhani and Vande Bharat are two of the most premium trains operated by the Indian Railways. They offer high-speed, comfortable, and luxurious travel to various destinations across the country. One of the main attractions of these trains is the food they provide to the passengers. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is responsible for the catering services on these trains and has recently introduced various changes in its menu and pricing to enhance the quality and variety of food. The food served on Rajdhani and Vande Bharat trains is based on the travel zone, class, and duration of the journey. The passengers can choose from a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, as well as special meals for Jain and diabetic passengers. The food is prepared in hygienic and modern base kitchens and is packed in eco-friendly containers. The passengers can also view the live streaming of the food preparation on the IRCTC website or app. The menu on Rajdhani and Vande Bharat trains includes welcome drinks, morning tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening snacks. The welcome drink is usually a branded nimbu paani (lemonade) in a tetra pack, along with a refreshing tissue. The morning tea consists of two biscuits, a tea or coffee kit, and a sugar or sugar-free sachet. The breakfast offers a variety of dishes, such as stuffed paratha, kulcha chana, besan chila, veg cutlet, paneer-a-la-keive, dhokla, poha, idly, rice pongal, rava upma, onion uttapam, medu vada, sambar, and coconut chutney. The accompaniments for the breakfast are white or brown bread, marmalade, jam, butter, pickle, salt, and pepper. The non-vegetarian option for the breakfast is a capsicum, onion, or tomato omelette of two eggs, with finger chips and boiled vegetables. The lunch and dinner menus are similar and consist of a soup, a salad, a main course, a dessert, and a bread basket. The soup is usually a veg or non-veg soup, served with breadsticks and butter. The salad is a mix of cucumber, tomato, carrot, onion, and lemon, with a dressing of salt, pepper, and vinegar. The main course offers a choice of rice, dal, roti, paratha, naan, or kulcha, along with two or three veg or non-veg curries, such as paneer, kofta, chole, rajma, matar, aloo, chicken, mutton, fish, or egg. The dessert is either a branded ice cream, a gulab jamun, a rasgulla, or a halwa. The bread basket contains papad, pickle, and salt. The evening snacks include a hot beverage, such as tea, coffee, or soup, along with a snack item, such as samosa, kachori, sandwich, burger, pizza, pakora, or bhel. The passengers can also opt for a fruit platter, a cheese platter, or a dry fruit platter. The IRCTC has recently revised the prices of the food items on these trains, effective from July 15, 2022. The prices are inclusive of GST and vary according to the class and the type of meal. The passengers who have opted for the “no-food” option during the ticket booking can also order food on board, but at a higher rate. The new rates are as follows: For Rajdhani trains, the passengers travelling in first AC will have to pay Rs. 230 for morning tea, Rs. 280 for breakfast, Rs. 415 for lunch and dinner, and Rs. 205 for evening snacks. The passengers travelling in second AC or third AC will have to pay Rs. 140 for morning tea, Rs. 170 for breakfast, Rs. 245 for lunch and dinner, and Rs. 140 for evening snacks. For Vande Bharat trains, the passengers travelling in first AC or economy class will have to pay Rs. 15 for morning tea, Rs. 155 for breakfast, Rs. 244 for lunch and dinner, and Rs. 105 for evening snacks. The passengers who order food on board will have to pay Rs. 205 for breakfast, Rs. 272 for lunch and dinner, and Rs. 155 for evening snacks. The food served on Rajdhani and Vande Bharat trains is a reflection of the diversity and richness of the Indian cuisine. It is also a way of ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of the passengers who travel on these trains. The IRCTC strives to provide the best quality and variety of food to the passengers and welcomes their feedback and suggestions. The food on these trains is not only a meal, but also an experience
