The final flight has touched down at . Its arrival brings to an end the firm’s long history, which began back in 1841. Thomas Cook Group plc was a British global travel group. It was formed on 19 June 2007 by the merger of Thomas Cook AG (itself the successor to Thomas Cook & Son) and MyTravel Group. The group operated in two separate segments: a tour operator and an airline. Thomas Cook was listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The company ceased trading on 23 September 2019 after being declared financially insolvent. On 22 September 2019, the last ditch attempt to save the Thomas Cook Group failed to pass. Fosun refused to add another £200 million to a £900 million loan. It was confirmed that the UK government were unable to assist the group and that Thomas Cook Group fell into administration on 23 September 2019, ceasing operations immediately and leaving 600,000 stranded at their holiday destinations. The Civil Aviation Authority is leading a rescue operation to ensure the safe and timely return of an estimated 150,000 stranded British citizens, the UK's biggest peacetime repatriation. Insurance companies will take charge of customers from Germany, one of the former company's biggest markets.
