From World of Reptiles Exhibit since Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019 during Bronx Zoo's 4th visit throughout 2019. False Gharial: 1. Scientific Name = Tomistoma Schlegelii. 2. Nickname = Malayan Gharial, Sunda Gharial, & Tomistoma. 3. Has a long snout filled with sharp teeth just like Indian Gharial of Asia's Indian Subcontinent & Slender Snouted Crocodile from Central Africa. 4. Crocodilian from Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, & Java in the Southeast section from Asia's Indonesian Islands. 5. Eats fish, small vertebrates, even larger vertebrates, aquatic birds, & reptiles. 6. Females lay small clutches per neat 13 to 35 eggs. 7. Length = Grows up to 16 to 20 feet. 8. Vulnerably endangered due to animal cruelty, habitat loss, & poaching. 9. Lives up to 60 to 80 years old. 10. To help False Gharials, donate to Wildlife Conservation Society at 2300 Southern Blvd in Bronx, NY 10460. 11. Carnivore, which is why new teeth gets replaced after the old one is loose or damaged.
