JCCCvideo's video: NMoCA InSight: Wilbur Niewald In the Landscape

For the exhibition In the Landscape, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art invited Wilbur Niewald to create new watercolor works over the course of a year (2017/2018). The resulting 12 watercolors were painted en plein air and encapsulate many of his favorite local motifs and views. The show was on view November 9, 2018 - February 3, 2019. The Nerman owns several of his earlier works as well as one painting that was featured in the exhibition. Like all of Niewald’s 1960s watercolors, Mountains II from 1961 was painted outdoors, in this instance, probably the Tetons in Wyoming. Our 2006 oil painting View of the West Bottoms from Quality Hill in Kansas City shows his hometown, while the 2006 Santa Fe, Monte Sol e Monte Luna depicts the Southwest landscape through his eyes.
