Dragonflies are ancient creatures, being found in the fossil record dating back to the late Carboniferous period about 325 million years ago. Back then, some species grew to have 30 inch+ wingspans, making them the largest insects to ever fly on Earth. Today's descendants are much smaller, and can be found near just about any body of fresh water. Equipped with two sets of tandem wings, dragonflies are fast, powerful, and agile fliers, being able to turn on a dime and reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. Filmed with a Sony a7iii at 120 fps using a Metabones adapter-mounted Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens we can see these amazing insects at 4-5 times slower than real life for a better look.
