The doubling works in this section of Indian Railways is part of the larger Guntur - Guntakal Doubling Project under South Central Railway (SCR) and makes the Dhone - Pendekallu - Guntakal stretch fully doubled and electrified. This second line of the Pendekallu - Guntakal stretch runs along the existing one till Mallapa Gate, from where it veers away towards west, forming a slight S-curve, to join the Guntakal - Raichur Double Line, before the existing Guntakal Bypass Triangle. This second line serves as a bypass line for trains avoiding Guntakal, predominantly freight ones, between Pendekallu and Ballari, facilitated by the Guntakal Bypass Cabin connecting the Raichur and Bellary lines. It also forms a Twin Single Line Section between Guntakal. and Mallapa Gate which can facilitate movement between Gooty/Kalluru and Pendekallu sides without a reversal at Guntakal. With CRS having cleared the line for commercial operations, trains like, 17603/17604 Kacheguda - Yelahanka Exp, 18463/18464 Bangalore City - Bhubaneswar Prasanti Express, 12975/12976 Mysore - Jaipur Exp, have been diverted to run via the new second line of the Guntakal - Mallapa Gate Twin Single Line Section, eliminating the reversal at Guntakal Trainspotting alongside the second line between Guntakal and Mallapa Gate could be a treat as almost all rail action at Guntakal can be caught there, barring any terminating trains from Gooty and Kalluru sides.
