Jan-Willem van Aalst's video: Healing music - Brahms - Ein deutsches requiem - 2

@Healing music - Brahms - Ein deutsches requiem - 2
Johannes Brahms' "Ein deutsches requiem", published as his op.45 in 1867, remains one of the most popular choral works of all time. This is perhaps not only because of the quality of the composition (which has been praised as "a conquering of the symphony"), but even more due to the kindness of the message that Brahms conveys with this masterpiece. Brahms himself selected fitting passages from the Bible to this end. This requiem does not include the wrath of God, but is meant as a consolation for all in sorrow and pain, regardless of ethnicity or belief. Brahms later remarked that he would have liked to call the work "A requiem for mankind". This video presents the second (and also longest part), called "For all flesh is as grass". The performance is by the Wiener Singverein and the Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted and recorded by Herbert von Karajan in 1964. On other parts of this outstanding performance, Gundula Janowitz and Eberhard Waechter can also be heard.
