It’s the year 1981. Young matrics are being recruited for military service, to help fight the “Communist Threat”. Paul is one of these young conscripts. He is the only son of Johannes and Aletta, who farm in the Karoo. His parents are proud of him, especially his mother, who can be a typical mother hen. The story of SEUN begins when Paul returns to the farm for his December holiday, after his matric exam. He knows he will have to enrol for army duty the New Year, and he makes the decision to make the best of his holiday. Paul is clever, handsome and ambitious. He is dreaming of becoming a medical doctor. Annemarie, is the beautiful daughter of their neighbours, a year younger than Paul and the two of them are deeply in love. The holiday is over too soon and Paul leaves for duty. Before long he is called to the border and he gets injured in cross fire, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. Paul returns to the farm, and his journey begins to pick up the pieces and to face the people who are confronted with Paul being bedridden.
