JanetinTenn's video: Freedom Ranger Chickens 1-30-09

@Freedom Ranger Chickens 1-30-09
This video is for all the people who have emailed me wanting to know what "Freedom Ranger" broiler chickens are like and where to get them. To the best of my knowledge: The Freedom Ranger company went out of business in the spring of 2008. The breeding flocks were sold to other hatcheries, one of those being JM Hatchery in New Holland PA. JMHatchery dot com sells these broiler chix under the name "Color Rangers" . That is where I got my free rangers. I incubate my own Rhode Island Reds, Black Australorps, Game chickens, Buff Orpingtons, and crossbreed's eggs. A batch of my eggs hatched the day before I received my "day old" free rangers. I was astounded at the size of the rangers. They were twice the size of my chix, and they had no fear of human hands touching them. My free rangers are 33 weeks old and long overdue to be butchered. It has been very hard for me to think about butchering them, as you can see from the vid, they are the friendliest chickens ! I have not raised these chicks like most people raise broiler chicks. I feed them twice a day, and only scratch grains. They are responsible for catching, or scratching up everything else they eat. If I had kept feed in front of them full time, they would have grown much faster. I'm not growing them for sale, only for my personal use and cause I like em.
