Janettes CozyCorner's video: Vintage Coffee Table Transformation How To: Distress Furniture

Hello! Today I get to share with you all how I gave this old, water-logged, damaged coffee table a new life, just with a few coats of paint and some sand paper! When my husband and I saw this coffee table in the garbage, we knew that it definitely needed some work, whether we wanted to sell it or use it in our home, however, it was a sturdy, well-made, solid piece of furniture and although it looked kind of rough, it had a ton of potential! I decided to paint this a nice, bright white color, distress it in areas that wear-and-tear would naturally take place, and then seal it with a clear, matte polycrylic (I've read that polyurethane can yellow white painted furniture). I think this piece turned out great and I'm shocked with how simple it was to give this coffee table a naturally distressed look! I was nervous that it would look fake or overdone but I loved how I was able to be creative with this process. TIP: I love the thrill of garbage picking and then transforming those old, unwanted pieces into something new and beautiful! The one thing that I always look for when taking thrown out furniture is whether or not the piece of furniture is still sturdy and solid. While I don't mind the painting process, I don't want to waste my time or resources on a piece of furniture that is going to break or fall apart shortly after. So, if you're like me, and want to refinish old furniture from the side of the road, make sure that it feels sturdy, that its not wobbly or has any cracks or missing bolts and that there is no signs of termite damage! And then, get creative!
