Kumrat Valley is located about 45 minutes away from the town of Thal. It is one of the valleys of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Every summer season thousands of tourists from different areas of the country visit Kumrat valley for its greenery and cool weather. Kumrat, a beautiful spot near Dir is accessible by road lined with interesting views. People are friendly.Islamabad to Chakdara is through motorway (190 km, 2 1/2 hours). On towards Dir road is metalled, good for cars (105 km, 3 hours). 10 km short of Dir, we turn right, (Baab-e-Kumraat). Sheringal (35 km, 2 hours) road is broken metalled road. Sheringal to Thal, dirt track worse, but travelable with car (20 km, 1 1/2 hours). Dirt track leading to Kumrat Valley is aound 30 km, is more difficult. (doable with regular 2WD; 4WD is better option). Kumrat Valley has a flowing river, relatively wide valley, with rocky mountains, and lower slopes are covered with evergreen trees: the bare peeks have beautiful golden shine in the after noon. The track is not dangerous....doable during day or night, and any weather. Fuel is available up to Thal. A beautiful water fall over a single large rock, in Kumrat is popular tourist destination. Water crossing towards the end of Kumrat is the final interest. Jungle tracks and meadows abound, are good for walking along. Hotels, Tent Camps, Free Camping areas are available all along the dirt track. The people are very friendly and will help any one and all. Sleeping in own tent is a very good option. The weather is mild... there is snowfall in the winter, but the road remains open. Still, good weather is from late May till early September Deodar forest is fast depleting in Dir Kohistan Valley and it continues unhindered as the locals claim that they have no other source of heating and cooking in the harsh winter season. The people of Kohistan Valley had offered the government a few years back that they were ready stop cutting deodar trees if they were provided with a natural gas facility. However, the government did not pay any heed to their demand.
