Jared Chan's video: Dangers of the Collective Unconscious for the Individual

@Dangers of the Collective Unconscious for the Individual
Dangers of the Collective Unconscious for the Individual In contrast to my last video where I talk about dreams and their function in building a connection between your conscious and the collective unconscious, and the therapeutic benefits of such a development in personality. This video speaks of the dangers in losing your individuality because of the tremendous influences of the collective unconscious. The collective unconscious has a stronghold kind of grip on our society, although we are often unconscious of the collective influence over our cultural interactions. Culture is the surface that is a manifestation of the deeper collective psychological processes, and we are often blind to the psychology that rests behind the cultural theater. Carl Jung and his focus on the process of individuation and the empowerment of the individual personality is a breathe of fresh air in a culture that is often hostile to true individuality, with a fake illusion of individuality, that is usually just a collective sub-trend, and not related to individuality at all (i.e. fad trends that are used as examples of 'individual expression' yet are just a collective sub-genre and often marked by a particular group mentality). Carl Jung distinguishes between individuality and individualism. Jung is not insisting on a strict individualism, which is marked by a selfishness and a complete disregard for others. On the contrary, there is to be a harmony between the individual and the collective, yet the problem often is, that the collective swallows up the individual and we are often fooled into thinking we have found our individuality where in actuality we are just unconsciously living out a collective narrative. So differentiation in this respect, is a psychological process that Jung calls Individuation. I will continue to make more videos on Carl Jung and his individuation process in the future.
