How Many Archetypes Are There? In this video, I go through Carl Jung's work on Archetypes and I explain what an Archetype is and I answer the question, 'how many archetypes are there?' People who first get into Carl Jung can intuitively understand what an archetype is, however, I think it is useful to try to articulate the concept of the archetype in order to grasp the nuances that Carl Jung made in formulating the idea. Throughout Carl Jung's collected works we can see the different ways Jung conceptualized archetypes. Although he outlines some of the key archetypes he saw as important such as the shadow, anima and animus, and the persona to name a few, this is by no means all of the archetypes that actually exist. Some have lists of 12 archetypes that can be useful in understanding the different aspects of archetypes, their personification, and how they may impact and 'capture' our lives. Although this may be useful at times it can sometimes distort our understanding of what an archetype is and how many archetypes there are. I hope you enjoyed this video on archetypes.
