Jarod Fedele's video: West Side Story - Drum Solo 100 FC

@West Side Story - Drum Solo 100% FC
I made sure to get the live hands view for this one. This is the drum solo to the "West Side Story" medley as performed by Buddy Rich. I remember watching a video of this custom years ago and thinking it was impossible to FC. This took me about 5 hours, from learning the section to the FC. I did this all on stream. The whole solo is a mess, with so many double strokes, odd stickings, crazy fills, and much needed stamina. Let me break down the solo a bit more for you guys: 0-17% is basically a bunch of random red rolls and speedups. Throughout the solo I usually hit the 4-note rolls as RLLR, but sometimes I need to change the sticking in order to transition to the next roll. 18-25% is a tough crossover fill that required me to start the roll with my left hand. Thankfully I wasn't too bad at this fill. 26-37% is more random red roll stuff. I'd miss here a lot just because I accidentally hit, say, a blue with my left hand when it was supposed to be a right-hand hit. 38-50% is the big red roll. It goes without saying that a lot of stamina is needed to hit this, not to mention timing the kicks the whole way through. 51-63% is my cool-down period. After hitting the red roll, my arms are dead, especially my left arm. I have to conserve as much energy as possible during the red roll, and especially after it, in order to hit the later fast rolls coming up. 64-80% has a lot of confusing parts and some weird quick speed changes. I choked here many times. 81-100% is the hardest part of the solo for me. Many crossovers, including a very awkward green crossover, make this very difficult. Remember, getting through that red roll earlier in the solo (for me) is VERY draining, and hitting these outro rolls becomes a lot harder under that pressure. I had many chokes in these outro rolls. I even had a 100% overhit run on the green crossover, which I blame on my kit, as there's no way I could've hit an extra note as I used the correct sticking. Regardless, I managed to do it. My farthest choke was 97-98% in. As you can see, I did miss in the outro, after the solo. It was in a really easy spot, but I left the miss in to show just how dead my arms were. The spot I missed in was not hard at all, but I just couldn't handle any more drumming and my arms gave up on me. Thanks to Jaret (JarheadHME) for editing.
