JazzNote'89's video: Antonio Forcione Gypsy Dreams

@Antonio Forcione ~ Gypsy Dreams
Album "Acoustic Revenge" [1999] Antonio Forcione - nylon and steel string guitars Davide Mantovani - bass Peter Lockett - percussion *Marcial Heredia Fernandez - Ramirez guitar *Rufus Philpot - bass *Paul Clavis - percussion Wikipedia: Antonio Forcione is an Italian guitarist and composer. He has released such tracks as "Tears of Joy",Touch Wood and Alhambra and has toured with comedian Boothby Graffoe. Between 1992 and 1996 he performed with (and was musical director for) the musical group Olé. It has been said that Antonio Forcione is "probably the best acoustic guitar player in the world"[citation needed]; he is certainly up there with Tommy Emmanuel in terms of technique and sheer musical eloquence, his playing shares the same fire, passion and inspiration, though Forcione tends towards more jazz (especially gypsy spanish style) and South American influenced styles of playing. Forcione studied Art at the Istituto D'Arte di Ancona- Italy. His first approach to music was percussion, before switching to the guitar. This influence and ability is clear in his playing, which exhibits strong and complex rhythms as well as considerable use of the guitar body for percussive effect. His albums are all worthy additions to any acoustic music collection, however the stand out ones are generally agreed to be Meet me in London Dedicato Touch Wood and Talking Hands with Neil Stacey is also worth investigating. Note however that Forcione is undoubtedly at his best in a live performance. Although Italian born, he has been based in London since 1983 and regularly tours the UK , Europe and the World currently with a sophisticated 4 piece including cello, flute, double bass and percussionist. Although this is Antonio's second album for the Naim label, it is actually his first solo recording, which has not been generally available until now. Described by Scotland's The Herald as 'Dynamic, atmospheric and fizzing' and by BBC Radio 2 as 'Absolutely marvellous', it is the record that Antonio feels defined his personal style. Remixed and remastered to meet our demanding standards, it provides a stimulating exploration of Antonio's unique talents both as a player and a composer.
