In this fun short, I explain the Root 🔴 Chakra in under 1 minute. I explain what the Root Chakra is as well as what are some of the characteristics of an Overactive/Underactive and well Balanced Root 🔴 Chakra. While the root chakra is evolutionarily tied to those basic instincts that help us survive, modern-day has connected this chakra more to the business of helping us thrive. Moving beyond just food, water, and shelter, the domain of the root chakra has come to include concepts like health, wealth, and community. Day-to-day feelings of trust, belonging, and being present are governed by the root chakra. The root 🔴 chakra is especially important to the chakra energy system because a lack of “roots” can compromise the integrity of all the other chakras, directly affecting the wellbeing of the entire body, mind, and spirit. Only when we feel that our most essential needs are met can we focus on growing. The root 🔴 chakra is also believed to be connected with Kundalini, or cosmic energy force that can be awakened and moved up the spine through the other chakras. Within the chakra system, the root chakra has masculine energy and is symbolized by a red lotus with four petals. This includes your basic needs such as food, water, shelter, and safety, as well as your more emotional needs such as letting go of fear. When these needs are met, you feel grounded and safe, and you tend to worry less day today. The Root chakra is located at the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, and the first three vertebrae, the root chakra is responsible for your sense of safety and security on this earthly journey. The word Muladhara breaks down into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base.” This is the first of the chakras of matter. Balancing the root chakra creates a solid foundation for opening the chakras above. Imagine that you’re laying the foundation for a house in which you’re going to live for a long time. A solid foundation embedded in firm soil will provide the stability you need to create a home filled with joy for years to come. The word Chakra is a Sanksrit word meaning “wheel” or “circle”, and it refers to the individual circular spinning wheels of energy located throughout the body. The Chakra System is a complex network of energy channels connecting these wheels and is mapped throughout the whole body, much like a spiritual nervous system.
