A few weeks ago I decided to watch the movie Gettysburg - I have seen it many times along with Gods and Generals. I decided at that moment that I was going to take a few days to travel to Gettysburg and attempt to capture the beauty of this deadly place through the lens of fall. It has been many years since my last visit. It was a field trip when the kids were young and I was in the military living in Maryland in the 90s.. The kids were not impressed then - they enjoyed Devils Den and Little Round Top since they were free to climb the big rocks. Over the years I have become a student of military history and on this trip, I followed the battle from the first encounter on July 1st through the retreat of Confederate forces on July 4, 1863. I was a wonderful opportunity to do what I like in a place of honor and courage. It was awesome to find so many passionate and friendly people along the route. The words and message from President Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863 are still very much on point as we count down to the 2020 elections just a few days away. Many will say that we are once again on a civil war. I wonder if we still have a true government that is by the people and for the people so that this nation shall not perish from the earth. Take a few minutes and listen to the words, really listen. I hope you will find them as reassuring and eloquent as I do. Enjoy!
