Jo Ellen Litz's video: 4 19 23 Workshop Friends of Governor Dick

Lebanon PA, April 19, 2023: Ryan Fretz of the Friends Group presented a brief overview of concerns. Audience members were also given an opportunity to comment. Schock Board member Chip Brightbill presented a book to commissioner Phillips for him to read. On first read of the Friends’ proposal, Commissioner Litz stated she agreed with the statement that the County should have a Parks and Recreation Director, and we had discussed it in the past. Next, she asked if anyone knew George Gress. Susan Wheeler, the lady who suggested the Nature Conservancy as a resource, had met George there, which is where he works. Litz shared her experience with Swatara Watershed Park when the group wanted to plant trees to replace a golf course. There were also invasive species. George explained that it’s better to let the Blue jays plant acorns, and allow the forest to grow naturally. As the trees grow, they will choke out the invasives. Further, she explained that the County cannot place an easement on the property as they do not own or hold the deed to Clarence Shock Memorial Park. The land is in a trust. In closing, Litz shared an email received this morning questioning if she’s ever actually left the parking lot, and walked up to Governor Dick, and when was the last time she visited the Park?. In response, she stated that she goes to the Park several times a year, the last time with her church group. They did hike up to Governor Dick, and walked through the Park for hours. Previously, she had created a drone video of Governor Dick. https://youtu.be/O78px0Pmvnk Commissioner Phillips took offense to a statement that more people than those in attendance oppose the Forest management plan that is in place. He also stated that the Board of Governor Dick has members present, and will need time to review the presentation. We will meet again in the future. Schock Board Member Ray Bender said there is an advisory group consisting of various interest groups, including a bicycle group, that meet monthly with the Board, and provide input.
