COMMENT DOWN BELOW FOR PART-2 EF5 tornado in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (2011) On April 27, 2011, the Southeast was in the midst of a historic severe weather outbreak that spanned eight states over three days. Meteorologists referred to the event as a “super outbreak” — terminology reserved for the deadliest and most destructive tornado outbreaks on record. Three-hundred twenty-four people died in tornadoes during the outbreak, 238 of which were in Alabama alone. April 27 ended as the deadliest tornado day on record in 86 years, since the tri-state tornado outbreak of 1925, when more than 700 people were killed. More than 350 tornadoes were confirmed in the 2011 super outbreak, one of which was a deadly EF-4 that devastated parts of Tuscaloosa, Ala., on April 27. The monstrous supercell thunderstorm that produced this tornado lasted an astonishing 7 hours and 24 minutes, and traveled 380 miles, from eastern Mississippi to northeast Georgia, dropping several violent tornadoes on the way. Nepal (2015) A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015, toppling multi-story buildings in Kathmandu, the capital, and creating landslides and avalanches in the Himalaya Mountains. ... The quake was followed by hundreds of aftershocks, and only 17 days later, there was another major quake, a magnitude 7.3 temblor. Japan (2011) A magnitude-9.0 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the northeast coast of Japan's Honshu island on March 11, 2011. The Great East Japan Earthquake — the name given to the event by the Japanese government — triggered a massive tsunami that flooded more than 200 square miles of coastal land. Nepal (2015) With no way to meet their basic needs, they were paralyzed with uncertainty. Her district in Nepal, Sindhupalchok, was hit hard by the massive April 25, 2015 earthquake: a 7.8 magnitude quake that struck just northwest of the capital of Kathmandu. It was the worst to strike the region in more than 80 years. Trinidad and Tobago (2018) Trinidad and Tobago experienced a 5.9 aftershock Wednesday morning, just 24 hours after a 7.3 earthquake rocked the area, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre confirmed. The quake was felt in areas like Carúpano, Venezuela; Maturín, Venezuela and Porlamar, Venezuela, according to the center. Areas in Trinidad also felt the aftershock. The Trinidad Express reported on Tuesday that people had left their homes while buildings shook. The last strongest earthquake to hit the country was in 1968, according to the research center. Japan (2011) Japan earthquake and tsunami of 2011, also called Great Sendai Earthquake or Great Tōhoku Earthquake, severe natural disaster that occurred in northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011. The event began with a powerful earthquake off the northeastern coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island, which caused widespread damage on land and initiated a series of large tsunami waves that devastated many coastal areas of the country, most notably in the Tōhoku region (northeastern Honshu). The tsunami also instigated a major nuclear accident at a power station along the coast. Mexico (2017) The 2017 Puebla earthquake struck on 19 September 2017 with an estimated magnitude of Mw 7.1 and strong shaking for about 20 seconds. Its epicenter was about 55 km (34 mi) south of the city of Puebla. The earthquake caused damage in the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos and in the Greater Mexico City area, including the collapse of more than 40 buildings. 370 people were killed by the earthquake and related building collapses, including 228 in Mexico City, and more than 6,000 were injured. Alaska (2018) On November 30, 2018, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit South Central Alaska.The earthquake's epicenter was near Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson, about 10 miles (16 km) north of Anchorage, and occurred at a depth of 29 miles (47 km).Severe damage to several buildings and a highway overpass near Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was reported. There were no casualties reported. The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District reported that all students were safe. Trinidad and Tobago (2018) On August 21, 2018 a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck just off the northern coast of Venezuela, near Cariaco, Sucre. It prompted evacuations in Caracas, and caused shaking in Colombia, Guyana, Brazil, Grenada, Dominica, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago, the last of which also suffered damage and brief phone and power outages from about 100 miles away.
