Joe Perkins's video: Silicon Steel Boost Push Your Amp With A REAL Transformer

@Silicon Steel Boost...Push Your Amp With A REAL Transformer!
Check out this brand new pedal here: http://www.muiraudiodesign.com/siliconsteelboost Last year, I showed you the Silicon Steel overdrive from Colin Muir - AKA Muir Audio Design. That pedal created its gain by saturating the core of an audio transformer, which gave a very complex tone and the feel of a tube amp being pushed to its limit. It impressed me so much that it went straight onto my 2024 pedalboard. One of my favourite things to do with that pedal is to run the gain low and use it to push another overdrive or amplifier into saturation....which is exactly the thinking behind the Silicon Steel Boost. It uses the same principal as the SS OD but keeps the internal saturation low, making it more of a characterful boost than an overdrive in its own right. But with +21dB of clean gain on tap (and yes, clean level is 'gain'...somewhat different from the 'saturation' you'll hear from the amp being pushed hard!), and a very powerful 2-band EQ, you can achieve everything from a clean buffering effect, through to a pure level boost or slamming your amplifier tubes into thick saturation. But you also get the Heat control - a fairly subtle effect overall, but it can dial in some more harmonic complexity and fatness to increase the colouration. Plus, you can power it up to 18V for increased headroom if you want to keep things extra squeaky-clean. What do you think? A tasteful, colourful, Swiss army knife boost? Or not for you?
