Joe Perkins's video: McGuire T-Style: The Relic d Blackguard Killer

@McGuire T-Style: The Relic'd Blackguard Killer
Yesterday, I attended my first ever in-person guitar auction at Gardiner Houlgate in Corsham, Bath. It was definitely a very different experience to eBay - sitting in a room with other guitar nerds all holding our little number placards up trying to score a deal, and outbid the internet! But, I managed to score myself a new T-Style instrument made in 2011 by Mike McGuire over in Las Vegas (also known as Lot 360!). Mike is a luthier who not too many people know about - but those who have experienced his instruments speak about him in the highest possible terms; and he used to have Vintage & Rare (of London & Bath) and Norman's Rare Guitars as dealers. He's become something of an underground legend in the world of relic'd F-style guitars...and boy oh boy, having gotten to know this instrument for 24h, I can absolutely see why! Normally, going from a set of 9's on a new guitar to my 12-64 pylon cables I need to adjust the truss rod and let the thing stabilise for a few days before it'll stay in tune. But last night I restrung this guitar & gave it a setup, tuned it up, and this morning...nothing had moved. It's absolutely rock solid. I'm not normally wild about relic guitars, but this one really does feel super comfortable to play and the relic job really adds to the kerb appeal of this instrument rather than looking like it's been dragged behind a car. The pickups are also made by Mike himself and sound stellar. The whole instrument plays like butter; feels super comfortable; and has made me fall in love with the Telecaster (or a T-shaped object!) all over again. What do you think? An amazing boutique T-Style? Or not for you? Comment below!
